San Giovanni Hotel Renovation

San Giovanni Hotel, established in 1938 and one of Alexandria’s historic landmarks, is situated in front of the Mediterranean Sea in the vibrant Stanly district. In 2016, the hotel underwent extensive external renovation and restoration to upgrade its concrete structure, ensuring its longevity and preserving its architectural heritage. To achieve the renovation goals, Xypex Concentrate was specified for its superior properties in concrete enhancement. This crystalline technology was applied to rehabilitate and waterproof the external concrete structures. This application, beyond permanently waterproof, rendered the concrete chemical resistant to withstand the harsh marine environment and capable of self-healing cracks up to 0.5 mm. The successful restoration of San Giovanni Hotel underscores the effectiveness of Xypex technology in heritage conservation projects. Xypex Concentrate not only helped to restore the San Giovanni Hotel’s exterior to its former glory but also extended the lifespan of its concrete, supporting the preservation of Alexandria’s rich cultural and historical landscape.
